LION is a great resource, and one that I refer to often. In fact, many of the people that I interviewed last year were also LION members, thanks to the helpful guidance of Matt DeRienzo.
Your point about the platforms and how they’re re-prioritizing legacy media is a great one. And it’s true that some of the larger digital upstarts were able to take advantage of inexpensive access to huge audiences in the past, e.g., Upworthy, and that is no longer the case.
That would be an interesting question to put to teams at Facebook and Google: In what ways might your support of established newsrooms be undermining the innovation that’s needed right now.
I’d also be curious to ask LION members if they’re feeling an impact from some of those recent changes.
