It’s a good question, Max. My sense from many interviews and conversations over the years, is that most reporters don’t think about what they do as remotely like a business. Thus, I suspect that very few look to small business development programs as a source of support … and, I’d also guess that those programs don’t actively promote or speak to reporters as an audience of potential clients.
My most current interviews suffer from selection bias, i.e., I did not speak to reporters who’ve tried to start a business and failed. It’s possible that there are some stories there of traditional small business support around getting started.
All that said, you have given me an idea to reach out to some of those support services in Canada and to ask for some data on who they’ve supported in the past. Thank you for that! :)
